Owner Operator Qualifications
Owner-operator must meet the following requirements:
Basic Requirements
- Age: 21 years or older (as required for the intrastate operation of a commercial motor vehicle).
- Language Skills: Ability to speak and read conversational English to:
- Communicate with the public.
- Respond to emails and standard questions.
- Read and follow traffic signs.
- Accurately complete paperwork and reports.
- Health Certification: Physical and mental wellness to operate a company vehicle, as validated by a valid medical certificate.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL): Must have a current CDL with relevant endorsements for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Experience Requirements
- General Driving Experience: Minimum of 2 years driving with refrigerated trailers.
Legal and Safety Compliance
- Regulatory Compliance: No disqualifications for operating commercial motor vehicles (per 49 CFR Part 391.15).
- Job Performance: Ability to perform all tasks and duties as outlined in the specific job description.
Disqualifying Violations
Applicants must have no convictions for the following violations within the past 5 years:
- DUI (alcohol or drugs).
- Refusal to submit to a DUI test.
- Failure to report an accident.
- Leaving the scene of an accident.
- Vehicular manslaughter.
- Hit-and-run incidents.
- Reckless driving or fleeing a police officer.
- Hit-and-run incidents.
- Improper or erratic merging.
- Distracted driving (e.g., cell phone use).
- Passing a stopped school bus.
- Driving with a suspended or revoked license.
- Speeding by 15+ mph over the limit.
Accident and Violation History
In the past 3 years, applicants must not have experienced any of the following:
- 3 or more moving violations.
- 2 or more at-fault accidents
- A combination of 2 moving violations and 1 at-fault accident.
- Positive test for drugs or alcohol.
